So it's that time of year everyone! Candy canes!
CRE8ion by Ken Kwan
Candy canes can be found in many local stores and its time to make one of my favorite holiday infusions. Candy canes vodka! A tasty treat to mix in with hot chocolate!
Red and white give the best colouring but so far this year I have only been able to find red white and green. The green in the candy canes will give your infusion a brownish colour but if you don’t mind then proceed with the tri colours canes.
So just as an FYI. Some of those dollar store candy canes make some weird pink mixture that doesn’t filter out. Thing they also fully disolved 25 minutes which is significantly faster than normal. While the candy canes tasted normal. This blend tastes like toothpaste.
Ingredients:
- 12 to 16 red and white candy canes
- Mason Jar
Method:
Unwrap and crush the candy canes into a container. You can either do it all into the cre8 bottle or you can do it into a mason jar.
Once you mix your crushed candy canes and CRE8 you may notice that 90% strength vodka will not dissolve the candy canes. Something somthing chemistry alcohol non polar surface something something. So make sure you do this in a large enough mason jar where you can add some water or do it in the CRE8 bottle.
Cap and shake this everyday until everything is dissolved. It should only take a day or two. Strain through a coffee filter and add maybe half an oz of 1:1 simple syrup but this mixture should be sweet enough if you used enough candy canes.
Even quicker version if you don’t want to wait. Bring 2 cups of water to a boil. Reduce heat to simmer add in your smashed candy canes a bit at a time and a half a cup of sugar. Stir until dissolved. Allow to cool and pour into your CRE8 bottle.
